The Ottawa Region Métis Council (ORMC) is a charter member of the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) created within the geographic territory described in the MNO Community Charter Agreement. The MNO Charter Agreement gives the ORMC the mandate to govern and conduct council business while ensuring accountability, transparency, and consistency.  The Charter Agreement along with the Community Code and Community Electoral Code are the policy documents that the ORMC refers to when holding mandatory community elections.

The mission of the ORMC is to represent the best interests of our citizens. We will do this by gaining the recognition and respect of the Métis as a Nation and a people. Our goal is to allow our Métis Community to unite in the common interests of the enrichment of the body, heart, mind, and spirit. Our Council stands committed to promoting Métis cultural traditions, enhancing community development, promoting the academic success of our citizens, the encouragement of skills development and the promotion of artistic and cultural achievements. We resolve to work towards the recognition and affirmation of our existing Aboriginal and treaty rights including our inherent right of self-determination and self-government. Finally, we will work tirelessly to protect, and preserve, the land and waters within our homelands for the future. The ORMC has the responsibility to work with the MNO to the best of our ability in order to ensure that our citizens are effectively represented on projects taking place within the ORMC territory.

We invite the Métis community in the Ottawa Region, as well as other Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, to participate with us in the celebration of our Métis history, values and culture.
