Office of the Chief Electoral Officer:
Call to Fill Vacancies on the MNO Youth Council (MNOYC)

archive home

Currently there are seven vacant positions on the Métis Nation of Ontario Youth Council (MNOYC) in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9. The current MNO Electoral Code states that candidates must between 16 and 26 years of age to run for youth positions on the PCMNO or MNOYC.

The MNOYC is the body that represents the voices of Metis youth and their issues across the province. Being on the MNOYC provides Metis youth with the opportunity to become involved with youth initiatives, travel to youth meetings both in Ontario and across homeland (such as the National Metis Youth Conference), learn more about Metis culture and politics, and network with other Metis youth outside of their home area.

Youth wishing to run for the vacant MNOYC regional position must be a resident of that region and must meet the criteria for verification.

Responsibilities of MNOYC representatives include:

  • Providing input and setting yearly priorities for the MNO Urban Multipurpose Aboriginal Youth Centre (UMAYC) Initiative;
  • Participating in MNOYC meetings via teleconference, and one minimum yearly meeting;
  • Working in cooperation with the Provincial Youth Services Coordinator;
  • Ensuring that the MNOYC follows the MNO By-laws and Statement of Prime Purpose;
  • Reporting to the Provisional Council of the Metis Nation of Ontario (PCMNO)

MNO youth interested in applying to fill a vacancy in their region or running for the PCMNO Provincial Youth Representative position, should forward their expression of interest, description of community and volunteer work and resume as soon as possible but no later than June 25, 2006 to the attention of:

Lawrence Gladue
Chief Electoral Officer
500 Old St. Patrick Street
Ottawa, ON K1N 9G4
Fax: (613) 722- 4225

Elections to fill these youth vacancies will take place at this summer's Annual General Assembly (AGA) July 10-14th in Sault. Ste, Marie. If you cannot attend the AGA but wish to run in the election please advise us. Also, please visit the Youth section of www.metisnation.org for additional information.
