June, 2000

by Gary Lipinski

... “Recent court decisions (Powley) have been very favourable to the Métis cause and have recognized our rights. Judges have gone so far as to state that these issues would be better dealt with through negotiations rather than litigation. The MNO has made repeated requests for a negotiating table and have continually been refused and/or ignored. To the contrary the Ontario Government has again appealed the most recent decision to the Ontario Court of Appeal. It is expected to be heard in early fall.”
