Powley Case
Voyageur Articles

“Needless to say, this series of trials has taken its
toll on the Powleys’ lives and has required a considerable
amount of money.
“Steve held a press conference recently in response
to false claims by OMAA that they have financed and supported
his legal battles. In an interview with Métis Voyageur
he said: ‘I want it clearly understood that the only
legal council I have had throughout the entire trial period
has been that of Jean Teillet and Clayton Ruby and the only
financial and moral assistance I have had has come from the
Métis Nation of Ontario and legal aid.’
“Steve went on to say that, ‘Eight years ago I
resigned my membership in OMAA. I sent them three copies of
that resignation to insure there would be no doubt about my
intentions. Since then I have had absolutely no financial
help from them and certainly no moral support.’ Steve
went on to add, ‘...and I would like to thank all the
members of the MNO who have stood by me and my family during
the fight for our rights.’” |
