The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Georgian Bay Métis Council youth group gathers every Monday night from 6-7 p.m. to participate in a variety of activities.

The most recent meeting included leather work, creating medicine bags and pouches and listening to stories on Métis culture and history told by elders.

A favorite was the story of a child complaining about walking to school on a particular day in the cold. One of the elders, Gerry Dumont, also told the story about his mother walking 14 kilometers across the ice to the hospital to give birth. Popcorn and hot chocolate was supplied by the MNO for snacks.

The next meeting is being held on March 18 and will feature a pancake dinner courtesy of Mary Mackie.  Future events will also include an Aboriginal week Camp Kitchi trip to Beausoliel Island. All youth are welcome to join in on the fun.
