After completing training in the culinary arts sector, Jean-Claude Fillion who identifies as Métis, was struggling to find employment but was interested in entering into the business sector. He approached the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) office in Sudbury and spoke to an MNO Employment Developer who suggested applying for funding and support through the MNO. Upon completing the client assessment process, Jean-Claude was able to pursue a career in business. After researching a few different schools, Jean-Claude set his sights on completing a Commerce Diploma from Collège Boréal.
Jean-Claude loved the program and sat on the Board of Directors of Regroupement étudiant franco-ontarien (RÉFO) and joined the College’s Student Council. As a member of the Student Council, Jean-Claude helped plan various activities around campus and enjoyed spending time at the Louis Riel Centre, where he was able to embrace his Métis culture.
In April 2015, Jean-Claude’s hard work paid off when he successfully completed his two-year Commerce program at Collège Boréal. He graduated top of his class, earning honours and was even asked to give a speech during the graduation ceremony. Jean-Claude is proud to say that he is now employed full time as a Consultant with the Investors Group.
