The newest exhibit at the Fort Frances Museum celebrates “Our Local Métis Story,” focusing on a people and culture that formed the foundation of the Fort Frances community. The exhibit will also highlight Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) President Gary Lipinski’s contributions to the Métis Nation.
Museum curator Sherry George noted the exhibit is a joint venture, combining the efforts of the MNO Sunset Country Métis Council, members of Couchiching First Nation and Kay-Nah-Chi-Wha-Nung (Manitou Mounds), the local public and separate school boards, and several community elders.
In honour of the exhibits opening, the museum hosted an afternoon filled with Métis cultural activities including jigging and spoons.
