Education
From an organizational perspective, Education at the MNO is in the early stages of development. However, building on existing infrastructure and through province-wide outreach to Métis communities, learners and parents, MNOET is able to offer a growing range of education and training related supports and services, participate in curriculum review and development, and provide programming that supports the success of Métis parents and learners.
This is achieved through MNOET efforts to advocate for an inclusive education system by ensuring Métis voices are included in all education discussions, and in the development of education policies and programs in Ontario. Through productive engagement with the Ontario Ministries of Education (EDU) and Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU), Office of the Federal Interlocutor (OFI), our partner school boards, our network of colleges and universities, and active community members we can continue to foster a culture of lifelong learning in communities that support student education.
Through input into curriculum and through the provision of learning supports, our goal is to narrow the gap, improving Métis educational outcomes at the grade level and through graduation rates, until Métis student achievement leads the way in Ontario. This will be achieved through enhanced Métis content in Ontario curricula, ensuring that investments in Aboriginal education meet the needs of Métis learners, and supporting the engagement of Métis parents and the community in local schools.
One of the supports MNOET provides is the Métis postsecondary education bursary available from participating colleges and universities throughout Ontario. MNOET also encourages active participation by Métis on School Boards and their Advisory Councils, and on Advisory Committees and Governance bodies at colleges and universities.
