Amanda Dzoch - Region 7
For Amanda Dzoch, succeeding at her goal wasn’t a question of if but how. She knew she wanted to do something to ensure she had long-term employment but also something that wouldn’t remain stagnant, and instead let her grow, as she says, “both creatively and intellectually”. When it came time to decide what could fulfill these aspirations, Amanda was drawn immediately to Culinary Arts. Soon after she enrolled in Georgian College’s Culinary Management Program she faced the reality of mounting tuition costs, “I had only one major concern, how was I going to afford it?” she says. The financial demands coupled with an intensive full-time course load was overwhelming and it was only after seeking support from the MNO that Amanda’s worries subsided saying, “With their support I was able to focus completely on my studies”. Since that life-changing decision, Amanda has excelled in her chosen career.
Shortly after completing her training she finished her apprenticeship, passed her red seal exam and relocated to Toronto where she works today as a first cook at a prominent and renowned Toronto hotel. She credits the help of both Jo-Anne Parent and Scott Carpenter who navigated her journey and allowed her to realize goals she found difficult to envision on her own. Amanda is ever aware of the investment the MNO has made to her success, but it is her own personal achievement, with demonstrated effort, that proves the investment has paid off. ∞
