Shanese SteeleShanese Steele

Hello my name is Shanese Steele. My Anishnaabe name is Indoowaaboo, which means 'to carry the ceremony' and I am Crane Clan. I am a proud Métis woman from Thunder Bay. I have been given the opportunity to be the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Infinite Reach Facilitator for Trent University located in Peterborough. I am presently in my final year working towards obtaining a degree in Indigenous Studies and I hope to eventually gain a Master’s degree in Law. I am passionate about Indigenous rights and preserving our culture. I am also currently the Media Coordinator for the Trent University Native Association. Fortunately, I have been able to make connections between this group and the MNO Peterborough and District Wapiti Métis Council, specifically on Louis Riel Day. This year, I volunteered to sit on the planning committee for Trent University's and the First Peoples House of Learning’s annual Elders Gathering and was asked to coordinate the social media for the event. Being a MNO Infinite Reach Facilitator, I look forward to learning more about my culture, helping fellow students and Métis youth to do so as well, and to make connections with other passionate Métis youth within the MNO Infinite Reach program. I can be reached at shanesesteele@trentu.ca. I hope to hear from you soon! Marsii, Chi-Miigwetch!
