Tanshi, Bonjour! My name is Eleni Pappas and I am a fourth year, first generation student who is studying Art History and Canadian Studies at York University. This is my second year as a Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Infinite Reach Facilitator, and I look forward to learning about your interests while supporting you throughout the year! I’m greatly excited about learning and sharing our Métis heritage together. In my free time, I enjoy visiting museums, galleries and listening to oral histories. My main role as a MNO Facilitator is to assist Métis and self-identified Métis students at York University with academic and financial guidance. My goals are to host collaborative events that celebrate our culture and way of life through learning and understanding in a fun and engaging way.
One thing that is important to me, is to establish healthy relationships/networks between status and non-status Indigenous students (including, self-identified and two-spirited) at York University, by creating bonds with outside communities who share the same challenges and goals. My wish is for students to be able to express themselves in any positive way, while exploring our history and culture. I also want to facilitate thought provoking discussions and raise awareness on Métis and Indigenous issues in a safe environment, such as reaching an understanding within our multicultural communities, reconciliation in cultural appropriation, Indigenous land base concerns, and to reconnect our youth with our Elders and military Veterans.
I’m currently learning how to bead and I also like to fish, canoe and play the spoons! I’m always interested in learning new things, so feel free to share with me what you know and what you would like to see happen this year! If you have any questions or need help getting connected with any campus services, please do not hesitate to send me an email! You can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you, Merci, Marci, Miigwetch!
Greetings! My name is Heather and I am a fourth year Nursing student at York University (York U) in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Program. I previously attended York U for my Bachelor of Administrative Studies (BAS) from 2009-2013. I am lucky this year to work alongside my fellow York U student Eleni Pappas as an Infinite Reach Facilitator for the 2017-2018 academic year. This year we plan to combine our love of the outdoors and art to come up with some great activities. In my free time, I enjoy riding my two horses Oxanna and Mosley, and taking my dog Merlin for long treks in the forest. As a mature student I have found the key to academic success is not only in studying hard (this is a big part though) but also taking time each day to do something you love whether it’s walking your dog, reading a book, playing an instrument, or doing some yoga; your mind will be sharper and more ready to learn if you take a break! So hopefully you will be able to come to some of our events, learn about Métis culture and enjoy a day with friends! Feel free to contact me at email@example.com. Cheers!
