Aboriginal Apprenticeship Centre

Two New Programs offered through Aboriginal Apprenticeship Centre:
Construction and Maintenance Electrician – Level One
Heavy Duty Equipment Technician – Level One

The Metis Nation of Ontario proposed the development of the Aboriginal Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) in Sault Ste. Marie with funding from Service Canada. The Center was established in 2009 and it is a unique partnership between Métis, Sault College, and First Nations. The purpose of the Center is to assist Métis and First Nation peoples in Sault Ste. Marie, Algoma District and Manitoulin Island areas become trained for, and placed in, apprenticeship programs. The Center assists all Aboriginal people wishing to become an apprentice, regardless of the trade. The Center provides a doorway to begin the journey and supports that can lead toward a successful career in the trades.

In addition to the Center offering supports for Aboriginal students into the full array of Sault College apprenticeship programs, The Métis Nation of Ontario, in partnership with Michipicoten First Nation, the Superior East Community Futures Development Corporation, and with the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities, is pleased to offer Level One Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Training and Level One Heavy Duty Equipment Technician. These new programs are starting in October 2010.
