Aboriginal Responsible Gambling
The Aboriginal Responsible Gambling Program is funded by the province through the Ministry of Health Promotion. The program strives to provide pertinent and up to date information about gambling and gambling related issues to Métis people to assist them in making healthy choices about gambling. The information is available across the province through the coordination and distribution of gambling related print materials and workshops.
Workshops and presentations providing awareness and information updates on responsible gambling are held in Métis communities throughout the province. A power point presentation is one tool used to assist in the presentation of information at Aboriginal Responsible Gambling workshops and community gatherings. The presentations cover topics like gambling history, gambling facts and suggestions about more responsible forms of gambling and the materials can be made available to anyone who would like to share the information with others in their community.
The work of the Aboriginal Responsible Gambling Program, which began in the fall of 2002 is guided by a Steering Committee with representatives from the north, south and central portions of the province. The Steering Committee provides direction and offers guidance to the Coordinator in rolling out the Responsible Gambling strategy. The committee meets quarterly and often uses MNO’s video conferencing equipment to conduct meetings.
New and innovative ways of providing updated, accurate and quality information on Responsible Gambling is the key to successful program delivery. Regular staff training helps to ensure that all MNO Health Workers have the most up to date information and helps to ensure all of our Métis citizens have the information they need to make the right choices and enjoy improved health and wellness.
