Rendezvous throughout the Nation
This year the Healing & Wellness Branch was excited to launch collaborative Rendezvous with MNO Community Councils across Ontario. Rendezvous events were organized because the MNO heard from citizens that due to distance, work or other variables they often can’t attend the AGA and feel they miss the opportunity to connect with fellow Métis. So, this year the MNO hosted one to two day Rendezvous events to celebrate Métis people and culture right across Ontario.
Hundreds of people attended Rendezvous events where they enjoyed traditional foods, demonstrations of cultural activities from finger weaving to tanning to canning, activities for the children and sharing circles for our hunters and gatherers, which was a wonderful opportunity to pass on the oral traditions and teach skills. Each Rendezvous had unique aspects depending on the resources people in each area and vendors who participated.
Rendezvous events were held at:
Colborne (hosted by Windsor, Welland, Toronto, Hamilton and Mississauga)
Owen Sound (hosted by Owen Sound, Midland and Port McNicol)
Bancroft (hosted by Bancroft, Renfrew and Ottawa)
Shebandowan (hosted by Thunder Bay and Fort Frances)
Sturgeon Falls (hosted by Timmins and North Bay)
Massey (hosted by Sault Ste. Maire and Sudbury)
Kenora (hosted by Kenora and Dryden)
