Health Career TRAINING

Further information on the Métis Nation of Ontario Health Careers Support program (HCSP) and application forms for each program:

The health career training and support program is to assist and encourage Métis students to gain the necessary prerequisites to enter into health careers and to support those Métis health professionals working in health careers that provide services to Métis people to continue and/or enhance their education. Funding can be awarded to a maximum of $3000. If you have financial need over and above the maximum amounts allowed under this program you are allowed to apply under the Busary Program as well.

Type of Training that will be funded:

  • Pre-health programs
  • Pre-med programs
  • Access Programs for preparation for acceptance into an accredited health career program (as per list of eligible professions)
  • Continuing Education for health professionals and paraprofessionals employed in the health care field either full-time or part-time (courses must be a duration of 4-6 months)

Eligibility Criteria:

Training Programs:

  • Must be of Métis ancestry
  • Must be Resident of Ontario for at least one year
  • Must be enrolled or accepted (pending application) into a health-related preparatory program

Continuing Education:

  • Must be working full-time or part-time in the health care field in one of the professions included in list of eligible professions

Please include the following in your application package:

Educational Preparation for Students:

  • Completed Application form
  • Completed Financial Resources form
  • Proof of Métis ancestry
  • Resident of Ontario
  • Proof of acceptance in or pending application to an accredited health program
  • Attending school on a full-time basis
  • Two letters of support – one from a Métis member of your community and one from a personal reference indicating your potential for success as a health professional
  • Letter of Personal Introduction indicating your preparation for your career choice, your career aspirations and future professional relationship with the Métis community (maximum 2-3 page)
