November, 2008 --- Invitation
to Métis Nation of Ontario Citizens
The Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) and the
Metis Nation of Ontario (MNO) are pleased to invite
Métis people to an upcoming discussion
focused on the theme: Promoting Aboriginal Teaching
and Teacher Education.
The Ontario College of Teachers
seeks a conversation with Métis people
to explore methods to increase the number of Métis
teachers in Ontario. The Ontario College of Teacher
believes that having licensed Aboriginal teachers
in Ontario classrooms will contribute to the success
of First Nations, Métis and Inuit students.
The conversation will explore
the following areas:
- processes to identify the
number of Aboriginal teachers in Ontario
- Methods to encourage Métis
students and adults to consider teaching as
a career
- Strategies to increase the
number of Métis teachers who seek certification
in Ontario
- Métis resources to
support teacher education and the ethical standards
and standards of practice
- Alternative ways to deliver
Aboriginal teacher education courses.
