interview with Jeremy

I
was born in Dryden, Ontario. My grandparents raised me in
Dryden since I was a child. Throughout high school and college,
I played a lot of sports, and worked as a fishing guide at
a remote fly-in fishing resort in northwestern Ontario. After
high school I attended trade school for HVAC and then completed
a 5 year apprenticeship to become a refrigeration journeyman
mechanic. Since starting college 8 years ago, I have lived
in many places for school and work such as Flin Flon MB, Calgary,
Sudbury, Kenora, and most recently Pembroke.
I
have been very active in the outdoors, enjoying various activities
such as mountain biking, skiing, snowshoeing, canoeing, and
hiking. I also enjoy orienteering, and have competed in some
adventure races. I'm definitely a team player and I'm an avid
broomball player, and enjoy other sports such as volley ball
and soccer.
I
have a dream of owning my own business and I have a goal of
starting an eco-tourism guide and outfitting business in the
Kenora Region. For the past year I have been attending the
Adventure Naturalist program at Algonquin College in Pembroke
ON. The Adnat program is an outdoor, guide and interpreter
training program. I feel that northwest Ontario has a huge
potential for a strong eco-tourism industry, with abundant
historical sites and a natural history that needs to be appreciated.
I
have many motivations to be on this expedition. Since reading
a book on canoeing the fur trade routes a couple of years
ago, I have planned to cross the country by some means of
self powered travel, and this trip will be a great start to
my goal of crossing the continent.
