Starting Salary: $46,610 – $56,370, per year based on experience. Salary Range Max $60,600 [2022 Rates]

The Role

The Consultation Summer Student with the Lands, Resources and Consultations (LRC) Branch assists with research and engagement support for MNO’s consultation processes relating to the Crown’s Duty to Consult, comply, and Accommodate Indigenous peoples. Under the direction of the Managers in the LRC Branch, the Consultation Summer Student will undertake assigned research activities to locate, synthesize and communicate information to LRC staff and project consultants as needed.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct secondary research to identify and review publicly available data and reports to support current consultation activities and projects.
  • Support the activities of LRC Managers to provide a timely response to project consultant requests for information.
  • Develop and maintain a document archive.
  • Communicate project progress to LRC Managers.
  • Support the planning and implementation of engagement activities with Consultation Advisors, such as planning consultation meetings, site tours and community information sessions etc.
  • Support the LRC Branch Manager in other research and planning project as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
  • 3rd or 4th year university undergraduate student; or first year graduate student in anthropology, geography, sociology, political science, planning, or related inter- discipline program.
  • Experience in regional planning, community development, or Indigenous legal, policy and research especially in respect of the federal and/or provincial government; some government policy or program experience is preferred.
  • An understanding of regulatory processes, planning and Indigenous issues and the impact assessment process or a demonstrated ability and willingness to learn about these and other processes and issues quickly.
