Starting Salary: $47,540 – $54,190, per year based on experience. Salary Range Max $61,810 [2023 Rates]

The Role
The Community Action Program for Children targets families at risk who experience higher than normal incidents of family poverty, abuse, neglect, poor health and nutrition, developmental delays, social and emotional problems, family breakdown, and injury or disability. Offer support to Metis children 0 – 6 by helping parents and guardians with pre-natal, infant and child nutrition as well as parenting and care-giving skills. Program Staff work with Métis families to promote healthy lifestyle choices and provide them with access to cultural support and community development through programming. By providing this training and support to families the Program helps children in at risk situations lead better healthier lives and helps prevent at risk situations before they happen.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure that Community Action Program for Children (CAP-C) program is delivered in the spirit and philosophy of the Métis Nation of Ontario’s Statement of Prime Purpose
- Develop network of clients, volunteers, Elders and Senators and co-ordinate their activities in accordance with a work plan
- Participate in local committees pertinent to the program and approved by the program Supervisor
- Work with health and social agencies by way of organizing and facilitating community events to enhance client and community knowledge, improve client access, and provide cultural sensitivity training
- Confer with external stakeholders to provide maximum care for client parents and children
- Deliver workshops and program activities
- Conduct on site visits with client’s parents.
- Implement programs for the promotion of good health, nutrition, recreation, community support and social activities
- Record client services in the Online Health and Access Tracking System (OHATS).
- Maintain confidentiality at all times, and adhere to privacy legislation
- Perform Administrative duties, and other duties as instructed by the Program Supervisor
- Financial reporting specific to your program site and budget
- Reflect Métis cultural approaches as a part of the activities and services
- Participate in on-going professional development activities as time and financial resources permit
- Attend training and meetings outside Métis Nation of Ontario working hours
- Fulfill all other responsibilities as determined by management of the Community Wellbeing Branch
Qualifications
- Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
Mandatory qualifications:
- Experience working with volunteers in a non-profit environment
- 1 or more years’ experience in client services experience
- 1 or more years’ experience working with families and children aged 0 – 6
- Proficiency with computer programs (Outlook, Excel, Work and PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in social services
Requirements:
- Knowledge of the Métis Nation of Ontario and programs offered
- Knowledge of Indigenous programs and services
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision
- Well-developed administrative, organizational and communication skills in order to meet deadlines
- Ability to lift 11.5kg when required
- Bilingualism would be considered an asset
