Starting Salary: $37,880 – $43,170, per year based on experience prorated based on 30 hours a week.

The Role

The Maintenance Custodian will perform routine custodial work in the Thunder Bay Community Centre and at the residential multi-unit complex at 511 Kingsway on a rotating schedule. You will work with the onsite Property Inspectors, external vendors and IPS team to maintain cleanliness levels at both sites. Overtime on holidays and/or weekends may be required. Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Operations Manager or designate(s).

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Offices (all divisions)

  • Dust shelves, cabinets, and other hard surfaces
  • Empty trash receptacles, wipe them down, and replace liners
  • Dust computer monitors and keyboards, as well as other computer equipment
  • With disinfectant, wipe down the desk, phone, and chair arms
  • Dust HVAC vents
  • If there are windows, dust window blinds/shades as well as the window sill
  • Clean window glass and any other glass surfaces
  • Vacuum or sweep and mop the floors

Washrooms

  • Clean once per shift
  • Check lighting and replace any burnt out bulbs
  • Clean and sanitize toilet seats, bowls, and stall walls and doors
  • Wipe down and sanitize counters and sinks
  • Refill toilet paper, paper towels, soap, hand sanitizer, and complementary toiletry supplies

Common/Kitchen/Lunch Rooms

  • Empty and disinfect trash receptacles and sanitary
  • Disinfect sinks, paper towel dispensers, and/or hand-dryers
  • Use toilet bowl cleaner and brush to clean the toilet bowl
  • Use glass cleaner to wipe down mirror over the sink
  • Refill toilet paper, paper towel, and soap dispensers
  • Ensure hand dryers/paper dispenser works properly
  • Sweep and mop floors with disinfectant solution
  • Disinfect toilet seats and toilet paper dispensers
  • Take out trash once per shift or as needed
  • Clean and sanitize sink, countertops, tables and chairs once per shift

Laundry Room

  • Empty refrigerator of all unclaimed items
  • Wipe down refrigerator shelves with disinfectant
  • Straighten items on the countertop and make the area look presentable
  • Empty and clean coffee maker
  • Empty trash and recycling receptacles, disinfect receptacles, and replace liners
  • Vacuum or sweep and mop floors
  • Clean sink and faucet with disinfectant
  • Wash counters with disinfectant
  • Take out trash once per shift or as needed
  • Wipe down and sanitize counters and sinks once per shift

General Common Areas

  • Once per shift wipe entrance doors, windows, hard surfaces, door handles and other touchpoint to remove dirt and smudges. Sanitize handles
  • Once per shift sweep, vacuum, and/or mop entrance and lobby floors, spot clean as needed
  • Once per shift check that entry video camera is working properly
  • Once per shift check that the three emergency exits, landings, and steps from the building are marked, unblocked, and kept in good condition
  • Check that fire department connections are kept clear, accessible, and have caps

Exterior

  • Once per shift clear away any debris from parking areas
  • Check daily for unauthorized vehicles
  • Check that handicapped parking spaces are clearly marked
  • Check that all fire lanes clear
  • Salt walkways as needed
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
  • High school diploma
  • Minimum 1-year janitorial custodian experience
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to use smartphone and computer literate
  • Must be physically able to walk properties, climbing ladders and kneel
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time
  • Customer service orientation experience an asset
