The prime objective of the Early Learning Camp Project Coordinator is to work for the Métis Nation of Ontario to support the Métis early learners and their families through assisting with the planning, coordinating and delivering of seasonal culture camps that will expand Métis early learner’s understanding of traditional knowledge and way of life, and to provide early learners with a culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate programming. The programs will be delivered through land-based activities and provide culturally appropriate experiences to revitalize cultural knowledge and provide early learners the tools to set them up for success, and be able to move forward on a path towards healing and reconciliation.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Effectively oversee the day-to-day project activities that support planning, coordinating and delivering Early Learning Cultural Camps
- Complete assigned project tasks, monitor project progress and ensure milestones and deadlines are adhered to
- Deliver presentations at conferences, workshops and in communities related to Early Learning Cultural Camps when directed
- Plan and coordinate logistics related to the delivery of Early Learning Cultural Camps (location, travel arrangements, )
- Conduct outreach and engage, develop and maintain relationships with Early Learning Cultural Camp partners and stakeholders as required
- Develop camp programming that promotes Métis culture and way of life
- Develop and deliver camp programming that is developmentally appropriate and rooted in Metis culture
- Develop and maintain a tracking system for equipment and supplies
- Assist with new proposal and project development, implementation, coordination and evaluation
- Collaboratively work with MNO staff, MNO leadership, MNO Citizens, potential industry and government partners, and MNO contractors on Early Learning Cultural Camp project initiatives
- Assist in the coordination and processing of financial administrative and operational procedures (i.e. purchase orders, expense claims, bill back submissions and purchase card reconciliation)
- Assist with preparing project reports and submissions to funders as required
- Report back on meetings and events attended (briefing notes)
- Maintains detailed and accurate work records using various ELCC specific reporting mechanisms
- Gather project statistics as directed, establish and maintain spreadsheets
- Provide input and oversight to the development of work plans and projects
- Assist with the development of outreach and marketing material for program delivery
- Maintain an effective, confidential and accountable filing system
- Fulfill all other responsibilities as directed
Qualifications and Experience
- Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field, and/or a minimum of three years of progressive, related experience in project coordination
- Minimum of two years’ experience in program delivery and reporting, preferably in a non- profit setting
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic/experience requirements
- Bilingualism is an asset
- Speaking or experience with the Michif Language would be an asset
- Demonstrated understanding child development
- Well-developed administrative, analytical and organizational skills
- Knowledge of community and Metis Early Learning initiatives
- Knowledge of program administration, budgeting/financial management, program planning, and coordinating
- Demonstrated results-oriented skills and practices
- Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of tact and discretion
- Strong knowledge and application of Microsoft Office, Excel, and various databases
- Experience with standard office equipment
- Demonstrated ability to identify problems and situations and take appropriate action
- Work effectively both independently as well as in a team environment
- Ability to work flexible/varied or extended hours when required
