Mental Health and Addictions Navigator’s primary role is to help create effective links between appropriate mental health and addictions and social resources. More specifically, the Navigator will be a resource and/or assist in supporting MNO’s Healing and Wellness staff, in the care planning for their clients by way of clients to the most appropriate service provider and liaising with other parts of the health care system within the Province. Ultimately, this position will aid in Community Wellbeing staff’s ability to connect clients to appropriate Mental Health and Addictions services and supports that are client /family centered, holistic in nature, focused on prevention, promotion and early intervention, and firmly rooted in Métis traditions and cultural values within their respective communities.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
The incumbent is responsible for the following items, as well as other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Designated Approving Authority:
- Be available to MNO’s Community Wellbeing staff to consult and support re: Mental Health and Addictions resources available for their client(s) – children, youth and their families
- Provide MNO’s Community Wellbeing staff with information to help them navigate the mental health and addictions system using existing databases and available community information
- Liaise with other MNO mental health services and supports on cases
- Actively and independently keep up-to-date on mental health and addictions services available across the Province for children, youth and families
- When directed, represent the MNO at community events
- Develop new collaborations and partnerships as directed
- Implement annual project work plans and activity reports
- Keep up-to-date records
Provide bi-weekly reports to the Supervisor of Mental Health and Addictions
- Program development – developing templates, manuals, documentation to support a client from admission to end of service, etc.
- Developing strategic collaborative partnerships across the province and within Métis communities;
- Outreach via attending meetings and hosting presentations
- Travel to meetings within the province
- Marketing of MNO’s Mental Health Services and Healing and Wellness Supports
- Strong working knowledge of the child and youth mental health and addictions system
- Active communication with off-site Supervisor while working independently
- Participate in Special Projects
- Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
- Completed Post-Secondary education in related field is preferred; however, a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in the field of child and youth mental health and addictions preferably to clients in an Indigenous, including Métis, setting.
- Experience and knowledge of Indigenous issues, specifically as it relates to Métis peoples and is an asset
- Experience working directly in the field of child and youth mental health and addictions
- Strong working knowledge of Ontario’s Child and Youth Mental Health and Addictions programs and services
- Proficiency with computer programs (Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
- Successful completion and maintenance of a Police Security Check for Vulnerable Persons
- Willingness and ability to travel, at times extended stays in location other than place of residence
- Knowledge of the Métis Nation of Ontario and programs offered
- Knowledge of Aboriginal programs and services
- Effective communicator and time management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deliverables within deadlines;
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrate assertiveness, self-starter and being self-motivated
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team and communicate via phone and videoconference as well as in person;
- Flexible work schedule with ability to work extended hours as necessary
- Ability to lift 11.5 kg when required
