Starting Salary: $43,450-$49,870 per year based on experience. Salary Range Max $56,370 [2021 Rates]

The Role

The Métis Healthy Babies Healthy Children (MHBHC) program is a prevention and early intervention strategy of services for families with children prenatal to 6 years of age.  The heart of the MHBHC programming is preparation for parenting (preconception component), getting ready for the birth of the baby (prenatal care) and taking care of the baby (postnatal care). Client based services are services provided to an individual where significant contact and focused assistance is provided to the individual and/or on behalf of the individual.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure that Métis Healthy Babies Healthy Children program is delivered in the spirit and philosophy of the Métis Nation of Ontario’s Statement of Prime Purpose
• Provide prevention and early intervention strategies of services for families with children prenatal to 6 years of age
• Provide support to families preparing for parenting (preconception component), getting ready for the birth of the baby (prenatal care) and taking care of the baby (postnatal care).
• Support client driven needs utilizing case management techniques such as establishing a trusting relationship; case noting, advocacy, referrals, development of personal wellness plans, peer support, follow-up, linkages, home visits, and interventions as necessary (baby weight tracking)
• Maintain client files, including preparation of intake forms, documentation, input on databases
• Financial reporting specific to your program site and budget
• Maintain confidentiality at all times, and adhere to privacy legislation
• Provide education/informing/learning activities related to prenatal health, parenting and nutrition
• Work with health and social agencies by way of organizing and facilitating community events to enhance client and community knowledge, improve client access, and provide cultural sensitivity training
• Reflect Métis cultural approaches as a part of the activities and services
• Participate in on-going professional development activities as time and financial resources permit
• Attend training and meetings outside Métis Nation of Ontario working hours
• Fulfill all other responsibilities as determined by management of Healing and Wellness Branch

Qualifications

• Experience working with volunteers in a non-profit environment
• 1 or more years’ experience in client services experience
• 1 or more years’ customer service experience
• Degree or diploma in social services preferred
• Proficiency with computer programs (Outlook, Excel, Work and PowerPoint)
• Knowledge of the Métis Nation of Ontario and programs offered
• Knowledge of Aboriginal programs and services
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision
• Well-developed administrative, organizational and communication skills in order to meet deadlines
• Ability to lift 11.5kg when required

Bilingualism would be considered an asset

1. Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain
2. Completion and maintenance of Vulnerable Sector Verification
3. A reliable vehicle (or ability to rent), driver’s licence, $1,000,000 liability insurance, and a clean driving record
4. Flexibility to work extended hours as necessary
5. Ability to occasionally travel within Ontario for limited periods of time
