The prime objective of the Project Coordinator is to work for the Métis Nation of Ontario to support the Métis Youth Culture and Way of Life Program (Grades 7-9) by assisting with the planning, coordinating and delivering of seasonal virtual culture camps and Way of life sessions for Métis youth that will expand Métis youth understanding of traditional knowledge and languages, and to provide leadership skills training to help build resiliency. The programs will include land-based activities and provide culturally appropriate experiences to revitalize cultural knowledge and provide youth with the tools to set them up for success and be able to move forward on a path towards healing and reconciliation. This position will also support the Mental Health & Addiction program through youth life promotion activity administration.
Duties include, but are not limited to – The Project Coordinator reports to the Manager, Education, Way of Life and Special Projects. In carrying out the following duties, it is expected that the Project Coordinator will:
- Fully understand the significance and fundamental importance of the Métis Nation of Ontario Statement of Prime Purpose (SPP) to all MNO’s work, and to the requirements of the position specifically
- Adhere to MNO Policies and Procedures and MNO’s Financial Policies and Procedures at all times
- Uphold MNO’s Standards of Professional Conduct at all times.
- Adhere to Privacy Laws and respect confidential information at all times.
- Be cognizant of the Ontario Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workers’ Safety and Insurance Board, and other relevant legislation.
- Work in collaboration within the branch, other MNO branches, MNO leadership, MNO citizens, stakeholders, contractors and vendors as required
- Provide overall operational/administrative coordination for the project
Coordinate project initiatives
- Collaboratively work with MNO staff, MNO leadership, MNO Citizens, potential industry and government partners, and MNO contractors as required.
- Effectively oversee the day-to-day project activities that support planning, coordinating and delivering Youth Cultural and Way of Life Camps and Sessions and Mental Health & Addiction youth program activity administration.
- Complete assigned project tasks, monitor project progress and ensure milestones and deadlines are adhered to
- Deliver presentations at conferences, workshops and in communities related to Youth Cultural and Way of Life Camps and Sessions when directed
- Plan and coordinate logistics related to the delivery of Youth Cultural and Way of Life Camps and Sessions (location, travel arrangements, etc.)
- Conduct outreach and engage, develop and maintain relationships with Youth Cultural and Way of Life Camps and Sessions partners and stakeholders as required
- Develop camp programming that promotes Métis culture and way of life
- Develop and deliver camp leadership programming that builds resiliency in Métis youth
- Develop and maintain a tracking system for equipment and supplies
- Assist with new proposal and project development, implementation, coordination and evaluation
- Collaboratively work with MNO staff, MNO leadership, MNO Citizens, potential industry and government partners, and MNO contractors on Youth Cultural Camp project initiatives
- Utilize office technology to communicate and collaborate with Métis Citizens, MNO staff, and contractors
- Assist in the coordination and processing of financial administrative and operational procedures (i.e. Purchase orders, expense claims, bill back submissions and purchase card reconciliation)
- Assist with preparing project reports and submissions to funders as required
- Report back on meetings and events attended (briefing notes)
- Gather project statistics as directed, establish and maintain spreadsheets
- Provide input and oversight to the development of work plans and projects
- Assist with the development of outreach and marketing material for program delivery
- Maintain an effective, confidential and accountable filing system
- Fulfill all other responsibilities as directed.
- Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture.
- Bilingualism in English and French would be considered an asset
- Speaking or experience with Michif Language would be considered an asset
- Well-developed administrative, analytical and organizational skills
- Knowledge and understanding of the history, culture, traditions and way of life of Metis in Ontario and throughout the Metis Homeland.
- Demonstrated experience in planning, development, implementation, delivery and management of innovative and engaging educational cultural workshops, activities, presentations, programs or other events that focus on Metis culture and way of life (i.e. harvesting, decorative arts, etc.)
- Experience working with Metis Youth, Elders, Senators and Knowledge Holders in the development and delivery of cultural and way of life programs.
- Experience procuring the necessary supplies, equipment, and resources to facilitate cultural and way of life activities that are delivered through land-based activities, workshops and presentations.
- Knowledge of community and youth-driven initiatives
- Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of tact and discretion
- Strong knowledge and application of Microsoft Office, Excel, and various databases
- Demonstrated ability to identify problems and situations and take appropriate action
- Work effectively both independently as well as in a team environment
- Ability to work flexible/varied or extended hours when required
- Valid driver’s license and availability to travel throughout the province
- Vulnerable sector check / clear criminal record check completed within the last six months
