The Role

As a subject matter expert, the Education and Government Initiatives Specialist will be responsible for: contributions to proposal writing, informing and developing program design and guiding principles within established systems, working with Program Managers, external stakeholders, and Métis governing bodies on education-related activities, and making recommendations that guide how programs and services are structured, delivered, and measured within a Branch.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Develop programs, policies, and proposals based on demographic, social, and economic research, and analysis.
  2. Assisting Program Managers with development and project evaluation, using a variety of research and evaluation tools.
  3. Evaluate pilot projects and assess impact to secure longer-term funding or other supports and provide strategic considerations.
  4. Utilize specialized knowledge to meet program, branch, and organizational needs.
  5. Analyze processes, procedures, programs, and other systems, and collect data valuable to identify opportunities for additional impact or improvement.
  6. Promote, track, and measure compliance with program funding requirements.
  7. Updating Indigenous Advisory Education Committee policies and procedures from kindergarten to post-secondary.
  8. Establish working groups to review and advise on educational activities and deliverables.
  9. Provide oversight on written submissions to funders.
  10. Provide strategic support and guidance in funding and accord negotiations.
  11. Other reasonable duties as may be assigned.


  • Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture.
  • Experience within the educational system in Ontario (early years – post-secondary), preferably with previous leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum, course development, and educational policies.
  • Completion of post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment.
  • Advanced communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Strong project coordination, including the design and implementation of project work plans.
  • Superior organization skills.
  • Strong technical writing ability and experience in briefings, proposal writing, and annual reports.
  • Highly detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing demands and assess changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess situations and problem-solve independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work alone/independently with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with educational stakeholders and the capacity to navigate established systems and hierarchies.


  • Completion of a Master of Public Administration (MPA), Master of Public Policy (MPP), or Master of Public Affairs, Master of Education or similar.
  • Knowledge of Métis-specific and broader indigenous policy and research, key challenges, and programs.
  • Familiarity with funding and partner agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of Métis governance bodies, federal and provincial agreements, and accords.
  • 2 years or more experience in a similar/comparable role
  • Experience dealing with confidential information
  • Demonstrated ability to write high quality evidence and data-based reports and professional presentations
  • Demonstrated ability in policy and program development and evaluation
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly acquire and expand knowledge and to be flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment
