Starting Salary: $37,133 – $42,320, per year based on experience. Salary Range Max $48,290 [2022 Rates]

The Role

As part of the MNO team, the SI Assistant will support MNO projects and promote citizen engagement and involvement within established priorities and goals. The SI Assistant engages with MNO project teams and elected MNO leadership on a regular basis to identify opportunities to advance MNO priorities and provides support to MNO communities and Advisory Councils. The SI Assistant will also support collaborative work with staff from the Community Relations, Intergovernmental Relations, Self-Government Strategy and other Branches address issues directly related to MNO councils. The Community Relations Assistant reports to the Director of Rights, Research and Policy, within the Rights, Research and Policy (RRP) Branch.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide administrative support to the entire RRP team including ordering supplies, inputting honorariums, and travel coordination for team members.
  • Identify and assist MNO communities with general inquiries.
  • Review and assist to facilitate training delivering presentations to MNO communities and Advisory Councils.
  • Provide support and assist with coordination of larger MNO activities and events including MNO Town Halls and the MNO’s Annual General Assembly.
  • Provide communications and online supports for Zoom, Website and Social Media, and community outreach as may be required.
  • Assist with updating the MNO’s internal elected officials’ directory and calendar of events.
  • Writing briefing notes
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to support and coordinate their participation in meetings including preparing relevant materials.
  • Actively working to promote the MNO, its priorities and its key policy initiatives.
  • Provide supports to advisory committees.
  • Technological literacy and proficiency with MS office, Outlook and teleconferencing platforms.
  • Willingness to participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
  • Complete all Human Resources Training
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times

Qualifications

  • Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture.
  • Building relationships with MNO communities and Advisory Council members.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive and productive working relationships with other MNO Branches.
  • Engaging with external contractors or consultants.
  • Working in collaboration with RRP team to support the MNO leadership, MNO staff, MNO citizens, and contractors on related projects.

  • Bilingualism (English/French/Michif) an asset.
  • Experience hosting Zoom meetings and/or Webinars an asset.
  • Conflict Resolution Experience an asset

Other Requirements:

  • Able to flex working hours, including working on evenings or weekends, as required, often at last minute’s notice.
  • Willing and able to travel, at times, with overnight stays in other communities.
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check (MNO’s expense) required should in-person meeting commence.

In 1993, the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) was established through the will of Métis people and Métis communities coming together throughout Ontario to create a Métis-specific governance structure and vision, encapsulated in the Statement of Prime Purpose.
