Starting Salary: $19.72 per hour.

The Role
Collaborate with MNO staffed programs and local Metis community councils and provide assistance at local events to provide Métis cultural activities. This participation will be at both in person and virtual events.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Fully understand the significance and fundamental importance of MNO’s Statement of Prime Purpose (SPP) to all MNO’s work, and to the requirements of the position specifically
- Adhere to MNO Policies and Procedures and MNO’s Financial Policies and Procedures at all times
- Uphold MNO’s Standards of Professional Conduct at all times
- Adhere to Privacy Laws and respect confidential information at all times
- The employee must be cognizant of the Ontario Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workers’ Safety and Insurance Board, Ontario Human Rights Code, Canadian Human Rights Act, and other legislative requirements.
- Ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with established Métis Nation of Ontario Policies and Procedures and Contribution Agreements (CA)
- Work in collaboration within the branch, other MNO branches, MNO leadership, MNO citizens, MNO contractors on related projects
- Attend the MNO Annual General Assembly (MNO Policy 2.120)
- Work with the People Leader to accommodate Metis Community Councils/the community at large requests for virtual/in person activities.
- Collaboration with MNO programs and services (including, but not limited to, MNO Self-Government, MNO Education and Training teams) with direction from People Leader
- Assist with all aspects of program delivery and events that will be in the virtual world and some in person events
- Research, develop, organize, and implement a variety of activities for programs and events in coordination with local Metis community councils and other MNO program staff. These activities will also be used to provide activities in the virtual world/in person if possible to day camp programs, senior residence programs, and other events
- Learn and demonstrate targeted Métis arts and activities
- Support community outreach as required for participation in activities
- Ensure that what is being presented and taught to others is based on approved MNO agenda, content and culturally approved process
- Engage others in activities/arts and conversation
- Track number of participants at each event for reporting requirements
- Oversee the maintenance of program supplies as required
- Prepare and actively participate in staff training, meetings, events
- Ensure compliance with MNO Policies and Procedures, including safety regulations in all activities
- Establish and maintain good relationships with the Metis community, and provide assistance in local community council activities and events when possible
- Work as part of a strong and effective team
- Assist with collecting video and still images to be used by the MNO Communication Branch
- Ensure accurate documentation and reports are prepared, collected, distributed, filed and submitted
Qualifications
- Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
- Must be Métis
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be 18 to 29 years of age at the start of summer employment
- Must be registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year (Some applicants who do not meet the “student status” requirement will be considered.)
- Demonstrated ability to plan, research, co-ordinate, organize, and implement program activities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision
- Computer literate (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet)
- Ability to effectively and courteously interact with the public
