Who we are
In 1993, the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) was established through the will of Métis people and Métis communities coming together throughout Ontario to create a Métis-specific governance structure and vision, encapsulated in the Statement of Prime Purpose.
Today, the Métis Nation of Ontario has built a province-wide governance structure which includes: an objectively verifiable, centralized registry of over 20,000 Métis citizens; approximately 31 Chartered Community Councils across the province which represent Métis citizens at the local level; a provincial governing body that is elected by ballot box every four years; an Annual General Assembly where regional and provincial Métis leaders are required to report back to Métis citizens yearly between elections; a charitable foundation which promotes and support Métis culture and heritage (Métis Nation of Ontario Cultural Commission); and an economic development arm (Métis Voyageur Development Fund).
In addition, the Métis Nation of Ontario has built an accountable, results-based provincial delivery structure to meet the socio-economic needs of its citizens and communities. Currently, the MNO delivers programs and services to its citizens through these branches: Healing and Wellness; Education and Training; Housing; Lands, Resources and Consultation; Intergovernmental and Community Relations; Self-Government and Registry. Through these various branches, the MNO maintains 30+ service delivery access points across the province, administers over $50 million annually, and employs about 300 personnel across the province.

The Healing and Wellness Supervisor will oversee the full life cycle of their program and/or employees, from hiring to orientation, to coaching and performance management and termination. The Supervisor will provide appropriate supportive interventions to front line programming and employees to ensure goal setting, quality, consistency and continuity of daily programming operations as well as complete understanding of the program, including compliance to all MNO Policies and procedures. The Supervisor is responsible for handling employee relations issues including attendance and absenteeism, in relation to their assigned team.
Two supervisor positions are being hired. One Supervisor position will be overseeing the Aging at Home Program and the second Supervisor will be overseeing the Metis Family Well-Being Program.
Key Responsibilities and Duties;
- Fully understand the significance and fundamental importance of MNO’s Statement of Prime Purpose (SPP) to all MNO’s work, and to the requirements of the position
- Adhere to MNO Policies and Procedures and MNO’s Financial Policies and Procedures at all times
- The employee must be cognizant of the Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA), Occupational Health and Safety Act(OHS), Workers’ Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), Ontario Human Rights Code, Canadian Human Rights Act, and other legislative provisions governing the employment relationship between MNO and the employee
- Ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with established Métis Nation of Ontario Policies and Procedures and Contribution Agreements
- Work in collaboration within the Branch, other MNO branches, MNO leadership, MNO citizens, MNO contractors and consultants on related projects
- Ensure milestones, targets, deliverables and deadlines are met
Human resources responsibilities;
- Under the direction of the Manager provide support, training and skill development and supportive interventions to frontline employees for matters related to standards of service provision and ongoing work culture, work expectations and job duties
- Responsible for the oversight of Dayforce, employee paid time off and requirements related to the employee
- Provide ongoing coaching to support effective job performance and conduct constructive and timely performance evaluations at minimum one time a year
- Implement coaching and supportive or corrective performance Improvement plans where required
- Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with policy
- Keep employees informed about rules, regulations, policies and objectives
- Resolve conflicts that arise among employees and/or other employees
- Engage in monthly one on one service reviews with program coordinators
- Ensure proper maintenance, filing and storage of records in case of audits or reviews
- Assist with recruitment which includes, short-listing and interviewing applicants
- Assist frontline with planning/marketing various workplan activities
- Review team meeting minutes and respond and support the team
- Debrief with frontline as required
- Receive and forward documentation from frontline onwards (posters, duty to report, etc.)
- Other reasonable duties as may be assigned
- Participation in MNO Healing and Wellness training as needed/determined
- Ensure Manager is briefed on important client, staff, volunteer and community related matters immediately
- Inform Manager of training requests and recommendations
- Collaborate with Manager to prepare supporting documents and action plans required to endorse program change and front line adherence as required
- Responsible for the oversight of Databasics, employee reconciliation for personal expenses and use of corporate Purchase Card
- Work with Manager to prepare the information needed for Finance branch to set up accurate program budgets, budget lines and amounts as per our funding agreements
- Work with Manager to develop appropriate tools to support front line struggling with internal financial processes and/or procedures
- Conduct monthly budget reviews with program coordinators and report back to Manager
Branch-Specific Mandatory Qualifications:
- Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
- A post-secondary degree or certification in social services field or related field or combined of education and experience
- A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment
- Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal
- Superior organizational skills and time/priority management managing others including the design and implementation of project work plans
- Elevated levels of problem-solving and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, lead and work effectively with others in a supervisory capacity
- Demonstrated understanding of policies, processes, practices and documentation used to deliver program services or the Branch mandate.
- Previous 1-2 years or more experience in a leadership role
- Demonstrated experience dealing with personal and confidential information and issues in a mature, tactful and diplomatic manner
- Demonstrated experience in quickly acquiring and expanding knowledge and being flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment
- Experience in recruitment, training, discipline, and termination
- Experience with conflict resolution
- A reliable vehicle (or ability to rent)
- Flexibility to work extended hours as necessary
- Ability to occasionally travel within Ontario for limited periods of time
