The Role
Oversees the full life cycle for their program and/or employees, from hiring to orientation, to coaching and performance management, and termination. The Supervisor is responsible for OH&S, managing return to work and accommodations, handling employee relations issues, including attendance and absenteeism, in relation to their assigned team. The Supervisor is also responsible for providing input into program policy development and implementation, goals and direction, and overall delivery and quality of work.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Act as a role model for the behaviour and culture expected from the team
- Explain / screen for behaviour and culture when hiring new employees
- Provide training on work culture, work expectations, job duties and organizational policies and procedures or arrange for proper training to be provided
- Organize, plan, and supervise day-to-day work for assigned employees
- Provide ongoing coaching to support effective job performance and conduct constructive and timely performance evaluations at least once per year
- Implement coaching and corrective performance plans where required
- Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with policy
- Keep employees informed about rules, regulations, policies, and objectives
- Ensure proper maintenance, filing, and storage of records in case of audits or reviews
- Collaborate with employees to identify ways to improve program or Branch efficiency and effectiveness and implement viable ideas
- Resolve conflicts that arise among employees and/or other employees
- Provide employee training and on-going technical support for program specific applications
- Develop and communicate employee and program specific work plans and update as necessary
- Provide and develop workshops and community engagement sessions on programs
- Complete written reports, briefing notes, charts, and program specific stats to leadership as required
- Schedule and structure zoom meetings as directed by management
- Track and monitor program and department budgets, PO’s and payment requests
- Supervise the delivery of intensive case management with clients and address client concerns
- Develop new approaches or processes to improve existing or new housing program development or services
- Supervise the delivery of housing programs, homebuyer’s contribution, emergency repair, financial literacy programs and any new program development
- Maintain positive and effective relations with service providers, community council, senior management to support the delivery and success of the housing programs
- Provide appropriate oversight as required by relevant legislation including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIB), Ontario Human Rights Code, AODA, etc.
- Other reasonable duties as may be assigned
Qualifications
- Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
- A post-secondary degree or certification in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment and development of program applications
- Advanced communications skills, both written and verbal
- Superior organization skills and time/priority-management managing others including the design and implementation of project work plans
- Elevated levels of problem-solving and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to motivate, lead and work effectively with others in a supervisory capacity
- Demonstrated understanding of policies, processes, practices and documentation used to deliver program services or the Branch mandate
- Knowledge in delivering repair programs, housing inspections, and understanding in the construction environment.
- Knowledge and work related experience with home ownership programs and processes, mortgages, loans, banking, credit ratings, and personal budgeting
- Ability to problem solve program related issues/ concerns and deliver appropriate action to various groups
- Manage the coordination of partnering agencies, consultants to ensure project success including preparing contracts and service agreements
- Schedule and organize team meetings, follow up and touch base to ensure proper coaching, program understanding, and objectives are met.
Previous 1-2 years or more experience in a Team Leader or similar role or comparable experience motivating/leading others - Demonstrated experience dealing with personal and confidential information and issues in a mature, tactful and diplomatic manner
- Demonstrated experience in quickly acquiring and expanding knowledge and being flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment
All positions at the MNO may require the following:
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain
- Completion and maintenance of Vulnerable Sector Verification
- A reliable vehicle (or ability to rent), driver’s licence, $1,000,000 liability insurance, and a clean driving record
- Flexibility to work extended hours as necessary
- Ability to occasionally travel within Ontario for limited periods of time
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Métis-specific and broader indigenous key challenges and programs and services available to address them
- A post-secondary degree, certification or courses in business, leadership or management programs
- Work related experience with budgets, PO’s, payments, tracking, and reporting
- Completion of a leadership development program or course
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning
- Experience in mortgages, banking, home buying process
- Understanding of credit scores, personal budgeting, and financing
- Experience with repair programs, housing construction, contractors, and home inspections
Experience in recruitment, training, discipline, and termination - Experience in conflict resolution
- Work experience in housing related programs
- Experience in program development; applications, written program material
