Starting salary range: $54,410-$62,590 per year based on experience
Summary of Position:
Under the direction of the Manager of Housing Programs, this position is a technical resource who will play a leadership role in guiding and organizing the work of others, identifying problems and challenges with delivery or quality, and providing recommendations to the Housing and Homelessness Management Team.
The Team Leader provides coaching to ensure performance and quality objectives are met and motivates from a peer-to-peer perspective. The incumbent will demonstrate leadership through exemplary practices and by identifying opportunities for improvements and greater efficiencies forward.
The Team Lead for Housing Programs will collaborate in the development and oversight of the activities and progress reports project work plans. This position will monitor and act as curator for Housing Programs Employee Knowledge Portal. In collaboration with Housing Programs management, this Team Leader will support creation of innovative new topical working groups and special projects within the Branch.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development and review of Housing Programs work plans.
- Support the Manager of Housing Programs in creating special projects.
- Provide administrative research as required for Branch planning and activities.
- Lead team meetings with special project updates
- Create and update service review tools and schedule/facilitate trainings to support provincial project coordinators to overcome challenges.
- Keep records of meetings and progress reports associated special projects.
- Support Manager of Housing Programs with the recruitment and selection function by sitting on interviews, conducting reference checks and phone interviews as required
- Produce briefing notes and other reports as required.
- Provide support with ongoing guidance and coaching to new employees
- Support Management in performance review processes and consult with Managers regarding recommended training.
- Point of contact for the program and coordination of all referrals – through a validated needs assessment, the Team Lead is accountable to triage files in collaboration with program supervision and management to ensure appropriate assignment of files, along with appropriate resources and contracted services;
- Review progress of a file throughout the duration of involvement with the program – engage in constant dialogue with staff on progress, oversight of case files to ensure notes and all paperwork per file have been maintained and are up to date;
- Coordinate with program supervision and management regarding efficient and effective assignment of resources per client;
- Be available to MNO’s staff to consult and support on services and resources available for their client(s);
- Utilization of the MNO’s data bases to ensure program efficiencies and effectiveness – accountable to maintain data base(s) and ensure staff are appropriately using this for purpose of proper file management and overall program evaluation;
- Actively and independently keep up-to-date on Housing and Homelessness services available across the Province;
- When directed, represent the MNO at community events;
- Develop new collaborations and partnerships as directed;
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes:
- Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field (social work, counselling, human services)
- Excellent management and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate team to accomplish objectives.
- Ability to solve conflicts among coworkers.
- Ability to remain organized.
- Proficiency in standard office equipment
- Ability to work alone/independently with minimal supervision
- Adaptability and ability to work in a face paced ever changing environment
- Knowledge of Métis-specific and broader Indigenous challenges
- Bilingualism would be considered an asset.
Experience & Education
- Previous 2 years or more experience in a similar/comparable role
- Experience working with marginalized communities, homeless or street involved clientele
- Previous experience dealing with confidential information
- Demonstrated ability to write high quality evidence and data based reports and professional presentations
- Demonstrated ability in policy and program development and evaluation
- Demonstrated ability to quickly acquire and expand knowledge and to be flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in social work, counselling or related field
- A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of above
- Demonstrated ability to effectively maintain financial records and manage project budgets would be considered an asset
Positions at the MNO may require the following:
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain
- Completion and maintenance of Vulnerable Sector Verification
- A reliable vehicle (or ability to rent), driver’s licence, $1,000,000 liability insurance, and a clean driving record
- Flexibility to work extended hours as necessary
- Ability to occasionally travel and stay at remote locations for limited periods of time
