The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Thames Bluewater Métis Council (TBWMC) is an important communication hub for the MNO in its area and plays a significant role in fostering community empowerment and development. They are the democratic representatives for MNO Citizens living within the geographic territory described in their MNO Community Charter Agreement. The MNO TBWMC seeks to collectively promote our Métis culture as well as promote and foster prosperity and economic self-sufficiency within their community.
They resolve to work towards the recognition and affirmation of our existing Indigenous rights including our inherent right of self-determination and self-government as called out under Section 35 of the Canadian Constitution. The MNO TBWMC operates in accordance with their MNO Charter Agreement, which give them the mandate to govern, while ensuring accountability, transparency, and consistency. The Charter Agreements along with the Community Code and Community Electoral Code are the policy documents that the TBWMC refers to when holding mandatory community elections.
The TBWMC operates out of the MNO office in London and covers the area from Sarnia to Ingersol and Goderich to Port Stanley (see Region Map for further definition). The mission of the TBWMC is to promote Métis cultural traditions and to allow the Métis Community to come together and celebrate our common culture and heritage. This is done together with our community partners and friends through community programs, outreach and cultural workshops. If you are a Community partner and interested in our Outreach program, please contact the TBWMC President for more information. We welcome all people with a spirit of respect and desire for mutual learning and understanding.
