Message from MNO’s Chief Electoral Officer regarding the election of the Métis Nation of Ontario Women’s Council (MNOWC), and information regarding the MNOWC Annual General Meeting

Acclamations and Candidates announced in AGA elections:

  • Métis Nation of Ontario Women’s Council
  • Métis Nation of Ontario Youth Council
  • Métis Nation of Ontario Veterans’ Council
  • PCMNO Senators

We are pleased to share information about four different elections coming up at the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO).

  1. The election of members of the Métis Nation of Ontario’s Women’s Council, by all MNO Women citizens;
  2. The election of the four PCMNO Senators, and from those four the election of the Executive Senator of the PCMNO, by MNO Senators registered for MNO’s AGA;
  3. The filling of five vacancies on the Métis Nation of Ontario Veterans Council, by Métis veterans who are registered for the MNO AGA; and
  4. The filling of six vacancies on the Métis Nation of Ontario Youth Council, by Métis youth who are registered for the MNO AGA

Virtual Elections

These four elections traditionally happen at the MNO Annual General Assembly (AGA). Due to COVID-19, the 2020 AGA will be a virtual meeting hosted on Saturday, November 7. All elections that are regularly held surrounding the AGA will also be conducted virtually, with voting for all four elections taking place on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8.

MNO Women’s Council Election:

  • (*New!*) Information on the upcoming MNOWC election, including how to activate or access an existing voter profile (via Indigenous elections services company, OneFeather) is available here
  • All MNO Women citizens – regardless of whether or not they register for either the MNO AGA on November 7 or the MNOWC AGM on November 8 – are eligible to vote for their representatives on the MNO Women’s Council.
  • On Sunday, November 8, all Women citizens will receive an email from OneFeather, and election services company contracted by MNO’s Chief Electoral Officer. The email will contain a link to vote or instructions for voting by telephone.
  • Women will be able to vote on November 8 from 9:00 am to 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
  • Any citizen who may be concerned that their gender could be incorrectly identified in MNO’s Registry is encouraged to contact Registry staff, at 1-855-798-1006, who are happy to update membership profiles.
  • Also, citizens are encouraged to contact registry to confirm that MNO has their correct email address: this is the address that will be used to email the link to vote in the MNO Women’s Council election.
  • More information about the election of members of the Métis Nation of Ontario’s Women’s Council, including the nomination form and instructions regarding how to self-nominate can be found at the bottom of this page.
  • Candidates and acclamations were announced on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

Elections to fill vacancies on the MNO Veterans’ and Youth Councils:

  • Only MNO Veterans and Youth who are registered for MNO AGA 2020 are eligible to vote to fill vacancies on these councils.
  • On Sunday, November 8, Veterans and Youth who are registered for MNO AGA 2020 will receive an email from OneFeather, and election services company contracted by MNO’s Chief Electoral Officer. The email will contain a link to vote or instructions for voting by telephone.
  • It will be possible to vote on November 8 from 9:00 am to 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
  • More information about the filling of vacancies on the Métis Nation of Ontario Veterans Council and Métis Nation of Ontario Youth Council, including nomination forms (VC, YC) and instructions on how to self-nominate can be found at the bottom of this page.
  • The deadline for self-nominations to be submitted to the CEO has been extended to 5:00 PM Eastern Time on Monday, October 12, 2020.
  • Candidates and acclamations were announced on Tuesday, October 13, 2020:
    • MNO Youth Council
    • MNO Veterans’ Council

PCMNO Senators and Executive Senator Election:

  • The MNO’s PCMNO Senators and Executive Senator are chosen by MNO Senators at the AGA following the PCMNO elections by means of a process which Senators determine for themselves.
  • A meeting of Senators and the elections of PCMNO Senators, will take place on Sunday, November 8, starting at 1 p.m. Eastern Time. The same technology that will be used to host the AGA on November 7 will also be used for the Senator meeting on November 8.
  • Only Senators who register for the MNO AGA 2020 will be eligible to participate in the November 8 meeting and elections.
  • More information about the election of PCMNO Senators and Executive Senator, including the nomination form and instructions on how to self-nominate, can be found at the bottom of this page.
  • The deadline for Senator self-nominations to be submitted to the CEO is 5:00 PM Eastern Time on Friday, October 23, 2020.
  • PCMNO Senator Candidates or acclamations will be announced on Monday, October 26, 2020 at metisnation.org/election
