Candidate for Regional Councilor, Region 6

Andrew Dufrane, Candidate for Regional Councilor, Region 6

Andy (Andrew) Dufrane currently holds the position of President for the Peterborough & District Wapiti Metis Council. Andy is known as the wise Metis gentleman in the community and across the MNO, and has held a position on the Peterborough Council since it was formed in 2010. He now wishes to take on the position of Region 6 Councillor, and to represent the citizens of Region 6 in the best way he can.

Andy is from a large family of 9 children. They were born all across Canada as his father was following work in the west and east provinces. His family settled in Ontario and has been here for several decades, and he is strongly supported by his community.

Andy recently retired from a local die casting company after dedicating his time there for almost 40 years in a skilled trades profession. He now enjoys reading and photography. He is also an avid harvester, and enjoys time in the great outdoors. And if any of you know Andy, you will appreciate his knowledge of the history of the Metis people.

Andy holds positions on several Aboriginal Advisory Committees in his community including Trent University, Fleming College, Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, and the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic School Board. He has contributed countless hours providing guidance and knowledge, and ensuring a strong Metis voice and presence within the schools. He has also contributed his knowledge to other organizations such as the Canadian Canoe Museum and the Peterborough Museum, as well as participated in several community events.

Andy loves meeting new people and has many great friends. He believes that the Metis people have a great story in the building of Canada, that our families have kept our culture alive, and that it is now our time to live our Metis culture and be proud of our distinct heritage.

As Region 6 Councillor, Andy’s goal will be to improve the communication that currently lacks between citizens, Councils and the Provisional Council of the MNO. Improved communications will ultimately help understand the needs of the community, and allow Andy to advocate for these needs. Another goal is to guide Region 6 citizens through the Self Government process in a transparent and informed way. Improved communication will be essential to ensure this happens.

Andy always appreciates a good conversation and can be reached anytime at ptbometis@gmail.com
