Candidate for Regional Councilor, Region 4

Mitchell Case, Candidate for Regional Councilor, Region 4

Hello Citizens of Region 4!

I am seeking your support as I am putting my name forward to represent our region at the PCMNO table. I have been volunteering for the the region for 15 years, and have worked hard to serve our communities. I invite region 4 citizens to take a look at the plan I am putting forward, it is clear that I have the knowledge, skills and experience to guide our region through these exciting and challenging times!

My Métis roots in this region are strong, my family having ties back to the the War of 1812, the river lots in Sault Ste Marie, and the 1850 Petition to have our rights recognized.

I have served on the PCMNO for 8 years as President of the MNO Youth Council and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in dealing with MNO internal systems, Provincial and Federal Governments.

Having worked closely with our Regional Councillors in the past I am familiar with the Duty to Consult and Accommodate process and have ideas on how we can improve that process to make it more accessible to our citizens.

With the support of countless citizens, 4 former regional councillors, the current and three former Captains of the Hunt, current and former community council Presidents, Senators, Elders, women, men, youth and harvesters – the support has been humbling and encouraging.

Key Pillars of my campaign are:

Land: advancing land related historical grievances related to the broken promise of the Crown’s representative in 1850, the burning of the Agawa Bay village in 1967, and the question of the Blind River Cemetery.

Self-Government: we can look into our rich history to build a self-government entity that will sustain us on into the future. As the regional councillor, I will work tirelessly to build this new entity that can take us forward to the future. It will be challenging, but I think we are up to the challenge, I know I am!

Communication: developing a communications strategy to improve the flow of information out to citizens and to provide more opportunities for feedback and direction from citizens. This will include newsletters, town halls, regional Facebook page, etc.

Culture: while our culture has been sustained here in our region, we know there is always more we can do. There is more support we can give to those who carry our culture and empower them to pass that on. I will work with the councils to develop a regional cultural strategy. This strategy will help guide the region to seek funding to support the preservation and sharing of our culture and values.

Regional and Local Capacity: one of my priorities will be to secure funds to hire staff who can work to support the regional and local leadership in the day to day work of the Regional Consultation Committee (RCC) and the Community Councils.
