Jordyn Playne is a young and dynamic leader currently serving as the President of the Métis Nation of Ontario Youth Council and the Youth Representative on the Provisional Council of the Metis Nation of Ontario (PCMNO). Born and raised in the vibrant Métis community of Penetanguishene, Jordyn has dedicated her life to advocating for the rights and empowerment of Métis people across Ontario, Canada and on international stages. Jordyn is a descendent of Marguerite Dusome from the Dusome-Clermont Family line and is proud to still call Penetanguishene her home today.
Jordyn’s passion for community, justice, mental health, and her Métis heritage began at a young age. Growing up, she witnessed the challenges faced by her community, from lack of essential services to few opportunities for practicing culture. But she also saw her community coming together to build a brighter future. Inspired by her Métis community’s resilience, Jordyn became determined to make a difference. She actively participated in community initiatives and pursued higher education to build the knowledge and skills to make a lasting difference.
Now equipped with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Carleton University, a Bachelor’s of Social Work from Lakehead University, and a Masters of Social Work from Wilfred Laurier University, Jordyn’s education has further fuelled her commitment to create positive change for future generations.
As the outgoing President of the Métis Nation of Ontario Youth Council and Youth Representative on PCMNO, Jordyn brings a fresh perspective and innovative ideas to the table. She works tirelessly to amplify the voices of Métis people and address their unique needs. Jordyn emphasizes the importance of cultural identity and strives to create spaces for Métis individuals to connect, engage, and celebrate their culture.
Under Jordyn’s leadership, the Métis Nation of Ontario Youth Council has launched numerous initiatives aimed at supporting education, employment, housing and mental health services for Métis people. She firmly believes that investing in Metis people is not only a moral obligation but also crucial for building a stronger and more inclusive nation.
With her unwavering dedication and passion, Jordyn Playne stands as a remarkable example of a young leader committed to reshaping the narrative for Métis people and reaching their full potential. Her vision and efforts are shaping a brighter future for Métis communities and inspiring countless others to follow in her footsteps.
