About the Award

The Youth Leadership Award was created to uplift and celebrate Métis Youth across Ontario. It honours the dedication, hard work and time young people across the province put forward to advance, advocate for and celebrate Métis people. The award will be presented to a Métis Nation of Ontario Youth citizen between 16-29 who has demonstrated volunteer leadership in the Métis community. The award recognizes the strength and resilience of young Métis people in Ontario and uplifts their pursuit to achieve their highest potential. The successful nominee will be presented with the Youth Leadership Award at the annual Youth Leadership Conference. Applications must be received by July 15th 2024. 

Objective 

The objective of the Youth Leadership Award is to recognize youth who contribute as a volunteer to the MNO and community year-round. Each year a subcommittee comprised of Métis Nation of Ontario Youth Council members as well as community council youth representatives will meet to review nominees and determine the recipient. 

Process 

Any person (parent, mentor, community council, community member, etc.) can nominate a volunteer by completing a nomination form. Please note self-nomination is not permitted. The nomination form can be found using the following link: https://bit.ly/YouthAward2024

Criteria

  • The nominee is between 16 and 29 at the time of this application. 
  • The nominee is a citizen of the Métis Nation of Ontario.
  • The nominee will have demonstrated through volunteer work they are committed to advancing Métis culture, language, education, and/or rights within the province of Ontario. 
  • The nominee demonstrates exceptional leadership skills, a commitment to the well-being of others, and contributes to creating a positive, respectful environment.
