Barbaranne Wright posing with the Queen Elizabeth II
Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.It is with deep sadness that the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) mourns the passing of Barbaranne Wright on Sunday, July 26, 2015.
Barbaranne was a published author and passionate genealogist as well as a devoted citizen and volunteer within the MNO.
She was the first chartered President of the MNO Niagara Region Métis Council and afterward became the Women’s Representative for that region. In 2012, she received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her active volunteerism.
She was passionate about her family, her heritage, gardening and did award-winning needlepoint and beadwork.
A devoted mother, she pursued her education after raising her family and graduated in 2011 from the University of Toronto with a BA in Genealogy. It was through genealogy that she discovered her Métis lineage.
Barbaranne is survived by her beloved husband, Harry James Wright; their daughters Leasa Dawn Wright-Cumming (Hugh Cumming) and Kirby-Lynn Wright; her grand-children Zoe and Ethan; her brother, Richard Steven Dominic; and her mother, Dorothy May Honsinger.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
