Lorette McKnight receives the MNOWC 2023 Women Honouring Women Award
A big congratulations to Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) citizen Lorette McKnight, who was named this year’s Women Honouring Women Award (WHW) recipient!
Suzanne Jackson, president of the MNO Women’s Council MNOWC, presented Lorette with the WHW Award at the MNO’s 30th Annual General Assembly (AGA) Gala Dinner on August 19, 2023.
Lorette has been the President of the Temiskaming Métis Community Council (TMCC) since 2018. Previously, she served as the TMCC Secretary-Treasurer for nearly 4 years. She is a committed Métis woman who has excelled in her position as Council President and served her community and the MNO extensively and selflessly. Saying that she enjoys volunteering for her Métis community and being part of numerous committees is an understatement.
Lorette is retired and lives with Albert, her husband in Lorraine Valley on the beautiful shores of Lake Temiskaming. They are the proud parents of three adult children. In her limited spare time, Lorette enjoys gardening, reading and fishing.
In the lead up to the MNO AGA, the MNOWC held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on August 17 in Ottawa. Attending leadership included MNOWC President Suzanne Jackson, Les Femmes Michif Otipemisiwak (LFMO) President Melanie Omeniho, and MNO President Froh who provided greetings and opening remarks. Attendees reviewed policy, draft charters and community codes, and heard reports from regional reps and leadership.
