The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is pleased to announce the appointment of David Hamilton as the new Deputy Chief Captain of the Hunt. This role reflects David’s deep commitment to the Métis community, his passion for traditional land use, and his decades of leadership and volunteer service.
David Hamilton brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new role. As President of the MNO Chapleau Métis Council for the past 14 years, he has consistently demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to advancing Métis interests. With a 39-year career at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and over 55 years of harvesting experience, David is uniquely positioned to guide and support the sustainability of the Métis harvest.
David is deeply committed to community service, dedicating his time and efforts to various organizations. He is a long-time member of both the Independent Order of Oddfellows and the Royal Canadian Legion and has contributed to community-focused political initiatives and campaigns, as well as supporting the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
As Deputy Chief Captain of the Hunt, David will collaboratively with Chief Captain of the Hunt MNO President Margaret Froh and the regional Captains to oversee and implement the MNO Harvest Policy. His role will be vital in managing the Métis harvest—a practice at the heart of Métis culture that supports food and medicine security, fosters the sharing of traditional knowledge, and strengthens the connection to our lands and waters.
Join us in congratulating David Hamilton! His expertise and dedication will be invaluable in preserving and promoting Métis traditions.
