Conserving Aquatic Species at Risk!
Engagement Sessions for all MNO citizens
The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) Rights, Research, and Policy Branch invite you to participate in a policy engagement focusing on the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) Aquatic Species at Risk Conservation policy update.
The MNO is partnering with Shared Values Solutions (SVS) to learn about and gather feedback on DFO’s policy revisions regarding aquatic species conservation. SVS, with over a decade of experience in environmental consulting, will ensure the engagement aligns with Métis ways of knowing, making it accessible and meaningful to all MNO citizens.
The project will review important policies including: Draft Guidelines for Fish Habitat Banks; New Interim Standards; and Draft Policy for Harmful Impacts to Fish Habitat. Engagements will take place on:
February 7, 2024 (Regions 2, 3, 4, 7) and
February 26, 2024 (Regions 5, 6, 8, 9)
from 6:30PM-8:30PM ET
&
March 6, 2024 (Region 1)
from 7PM-9PM ET
Don’t miss this opportunity to have your voice heard!
We’re excited to announce that door prizes, in the form of Cabela’s gift cards, will be up for grabs, and all MNO citizens are eligible to participate. Share your suggestions for community engagement sessions by February 5.
Following the survey and engagements, your feedback will be compiled into a “What We Heard Report” to be shared with DFO and MNO RCCs in March 2024, ensuring Métis citizens are informed and that our voices shape federal policies affecting our livelihoods. We hope you will join us in MNO efforts to protect aquatic species. Together, let’s work towards actively managing and preserving these vital resources for future generations. Your participation makes a difference!
