Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) consultation committees have been busy touring different facilities as part of the Duty to Consult and Accommodate process.
As part of the Métis governance system, the Regional Consultation Protocols advance the MNO’s overall nation-building efforts to help ensure that the Crown fulfills its duty to consult and accommodate regional rights-bearing Métis communities throughout the province.
The overarching goal of these protocols is to ensure that all MNO citizens who are members of regional rights-bearing Métis communities have an opportunity to be consulted on policies, plans, projects, and developments that have the potential to impact the collective rights and interests of the Métis.

Each protocol includes a Regional Consultation Committee comprised of the MNO’s Regional Councilor, and a representative from each Community Council in a given traditional territory. The committees work in collaboration with the MNO staff to ensure that inclusive, transparent and meaningful consultations.
Recently the MNO Region One consultation committee toured the Atikokan Ontario Power Generation (OPG) plant and on a separate occasion Goldcorp Inc. provided the consultation committee a tour of the wetlands at the Red Lake Gold Mine.
The MNO looks forward to future engagements with Ontario Power Generation and Goldcorp Inc.
