The MNO has received a report from Deloitte requested by the Provisional Council of Metis Nation Ontario, (PCMNO) in June, 2017. The PCMNO engaged Deloitte to conduct an independent review and analysis of payments made to MNO Executives and senior personnel.

The process began in late December, 2017 and the review covered a period of three years (2015-2018).

Deloitte’s mandate involved a comprehensive investigation of all compensation and expense claims of elected Executives and senior management personnel, including a review of expenses reimbursed and payments made on MNO credit cards to or on behalf of these individuals. Deloitte’s mandate also included an examination of MNO procurement, contracting and payments practices related to law firms the MNO has dealt with.

Deloitte’s report was delivered in January 2019. It contains 22 recommendations designed to improve compliance with MNO’s existing financial policies and procedures while other recommendations are aimed at improving and updating those policies and procedures to ensure they reflect current best practices and to make them clearer and more rigorous.

The Deloitte Report and recommendations were referred to a three-person PCMNO subcommittee for review and recommendations to PCMNO for appropriate action.

After reviewing Deloitte’s report, the subcommittee unanimously agreed with Deloitte’s conclusions and recommendations, and recommended their implementation. The subcommittee itself made additional recommendations complimenting those of Deloitte, to ensure sound financial management and improvement of PCMNO’s governance role.

Because the findings and recommendations of both the subcommittee and Deloitte deal largely with MNO internal management and HR matters their reports will remain confidential, as is normal practice when such reports are commissioned and completed for any organization.

**It is important to note that Deloitte advised that, based on their investigation and analysis, they found nothing to suggest inappropriate or untoward activities.
