Inviting All MNO Citizens to an Online Town Hall

The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is inviting all Citizens to participate in a series of online information and consultation meetings that will be held throughout the Summer of 2021 on the recently released MNO Registry Review Final Report.

In October 2017, the Provisional Council of the Métis Nation of Ontario (PCMNO) directed that an independent review of the MNO Registry be undertaken in order to better understand the completeness of the citizenship files of all Citizens as well as to prepare for future self-government and rights-related negotiations with Canada and Ontario.

A copy of the final Report and other information about the Registry Review, is available here: www.metisnation.org/registry/registry-review-report

As well, the MNO has produced a helpful video that explains the purpose and result of the Registry Review.

The results of the Registry Review shows that an overwhelming percentage of Citizens (over 17,014 Citizens) have “Complete” MNO Registry files. The Registry Review also details what Métis communities those Citizens with “Complete” citizenship files ancestrally connect to within Ontario as well as Western Canada.

The PCMNO has now directed that province-wide consultations be undertaken on the results of the Registry Review in order to determine what the MNO should do next. Flowing from these consultations, a “What We Heard” report will be prepared and a future province-wide vote or MNO assembly will determine what the MNO does next.

To date, over 350+ Citizens have participated in discussions related to the MNO Registry Review Final Report. The next two meetings will be held on July 7 and 14, 2021. In addition, further meetings will be scheduled throughout the Summer of 2021 based on requests from specific MNO Regions, Community Councils or constituencies. If you have suggestions for future information or consultation sessions please email RSRP@metisnation.org.

The MNO Registry Review is an important milestone in the MNO’s ongoing journey to advance Métis rights and to advance our nation-to-nation, government-to-government relationships with Canada and Ontario. We need to hear from all Citizens on these issues! You voice matters and should be heard!
