2021 Louis Riel Day Agenda

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this year the MNO will host a series of virtual Louis Riel Day events to commemorate the legacy of Louis Riel. On this day we mark and celebrate the Métis culture, history and way of life that Riel fought to protect as well as the continued fight for rights and recognition that he inspired. We invite you to join us and share widely within your communities.
- 9AM – Virtual Riel Day PANCAKE BREAKFAST via Zoom
MNO citizens are invited to begin this year’s Louis Riel Day events with Métis family, friends, and an online community pancake breakfast. The breakfast will take place over Zoom from 9-10AM. Supplies are limited! PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ACTIVITY IS NOW FULLY REGISTERED.
- 10AM – Riel Day FLAG-RAISING @ Toronto City Hall
This year’s flag-raising at Toronto City Hall is an online only event – check MNO’s website and social media on the day for photos and info
- 12:15PM – Riel Day FLAG-RAISING @ Queen’s Park Legislature Building. An agenda for the ceremony is available here. Watch the MNO’s longstanding traditional Riel Day Ceremony at Queen’s Park via Livestream on our Facebook.
- 1PM – Reflect and Get Active for Louis Riel Day! Via Zoom
Enjoy a presentation about Louis Riel followed by a mindfulness/stretching activity, and a fiddle performance followed by get-active home exercise activity. Click here to be taken to the Zoom room. - 4PM – Riel Day PANEL DISCUSSION @ Law Society of Ontario
Join the Law Society of Ontario and the MN), for the annual Louis Riel Day program. This year’s topic: The Honour of the Crown and Aboriginal Law in Canada: Past, Present and Future / L’honneur de la Couronne et le droit autochtone au Canada : le passé, le présent, l’avenir. - 6PM – Riel Day FAMILY TRIVIA via Zoom
Learn more about Louis Riel, then participate in a Family Silent Trivia game. Deanna and Amy will ask various cultural questions and families will be encouraged to write down their answers. The correct answers will be read aloud at the end of the game! There will be a live draw at the end of the game with a possibility to win 1 of 3 awesome prizes!
