On October 17th, 2024, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) will host an important and insightful conversation on Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD). This session offers an opportunity for Métis citizens, families, and the broader community to learn more about the legal, ethical, and practical considerations of MAiD as part of health and death care in Ontario.
What is MAiD?
MAiD is a legal medical procedure that allows individuals with severe medical conditions to choose a dignified and compassionate end-of-life option. Since becoming legal in Canada, MAiD has sparked dialogue on autonomy, medical ethics, and how we approach end-of-life decisions.
For many, it’s important to understand not only the laws surrounding MAiD but also the emotional and spiritual aspects of this journey.
Guest Speaker: Robyn Ferrier (she/her)
We are pleased to welcome Robyn Ferrier, an End of Life Doula and Spiritual Director, as the session’s guest speaker. Robyn brings a wealth of knowledge and compassion to her work with individuals facing the end of life. Her role as an End of Life Doula is to provide emotional, spiritual, and practical support to both individuals and their loved ones as they navigate this profound stage of life.
Her experience with Bridge C14, a volunteer organization providing support for those considering MAiD, as well as her role with the Home Hospice Association, equips her to lead this conversation with depth and sensitivity.
What to Expect from the Session
This event will cover several key areas related to MAiD, including:
- Overview of MAiD regulations and eligibility criteria in Ontario
- Steps involved in accessing MAiD as part of your health care plan
- Safety protocols and support systems in place for those considering MAiD
