Métis artists invited to showcase work at the OLA’s “Gathering Place”
The Legislative Assembly of Ontario (OLA) is putting out a call for Indigenous artists interested in contributing to the collections of artworks housed in its Gathering Place exhibition space.
Launched in 2016, the Gathering Place showcases the diverse works of Indigenous artists living in Ontario. It is a significant gallery space designed to “build a bridge of understanding” between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, and inform visitors as to the rich and diverse experiences, perspectives, and narratives of Indigenous artists and communities.
According to the OLA Speaker: “The artwork currently housed in Gathering Place has been generously loaned to us by Indigenous artists and communities from across Ontario. I am looking to you to help us find additional works to be loaned for inclusion in this important project.”
The OLA Gathering Place are interested in pieces of any medium: painting, sketches, photography, textiles, sculptures and carvings, and on any subject matter.
The Gathering Place is comprised of two adjoining multi-purpose rooms within the Legislative Building at Queens Park in Toronto. The space receives many visitors each year and new works are constantly being added.
The Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) hopes to represent and amplify the experiences and artistic expressions of the Métis people, and encourage all artists and artisans to consider this opportunity.
