OTTAWA (October 27) — Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) President Margaret Froh congratulates the Honourable Marc Miller and the Honourable Patty Hajdu on their recent appointments as Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Minister of Indigenous Services, respectively.

“Over the past few years, we have worked alongside Ministers Miller and Hajdu and the federal Liberal government to make strong advancements towards recognition and respect for Métis Rights, including our inherent rights of self-determination and self-government,” said President Froh.

“As we continue to advance our path to full Métis self-government, the MNO looks forward to maintaining close and productive relationships with Ministers Miller and Hajdu to address the needs of Métis communities, families and citizens within Ontario.”

Key priority areas the MNO will continue to focus on include advancing Métis self-determination, including self-government, the crucial need for a federal Métis Claims Policy, as well as concrete action and investments to close the gaps in areas such as Métis health, including mental health, employment, education, language, culture and heritage, early childhood development, housing and infrastructure, justice, economic development and Métis child, youth and family services.

“We see this shuffle as an opportunity for renewed vigour in putting Métis rights and reconciliation at the centre of the Federal Government’s agenda, and we will continue to ensure the voices of our citizens and communities are heard at the national level,” said President Froh.
