Dear Métis Youth,

What you think and experience is important to the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO).

The MNO wants to ensure it has an understanding of matters of importance to Métis youth across the province. This understanding is essential to make sure that the MNO’s work, including our proposals to and interactions with the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada, represent the real needs and interests of Métis youth to the best of our ability.

This is why getting your feedback on a number of strategic questions is needed. The timing of engagement with Métis youth is ideal because we are laying the groundwork for better programs and services to Métis youth. It is also ideal because we are preparing a submission to the Ministry of Children and Youth Services (MCYS) concerning the development of a province-wide multi-year Aboriginal Children and Youth Strategy.

MCYS has recognized that their current ways of delivering programs and support services to Métis, First Nations and Inuit children and youth need improvement. The Ministry is working with the MNO and other Aboriginal partners in designing and developing programs that are more community-driven and culturally appropriate.

You have an opportunity to say what is important to you individually and collectively, to identify barriers and challenges that you may encounter, and to define what success means to you. You can speak up about subjects like health, relationships, culture, education, employment and other things that are important to you.

Whether you are participating in one of our discussion groups in your community, responding online, or using the booklet to send in your responses by mail, you will be providing meaningful information to the MNO.

Thank you for participating and sharing your knowledge, ideas and experiences. Always remember that there is a large extended family in the MNO that is working with and for you, to encourage you to be “the best you can be”. We believe in you and know that you will continue to make us proud!

All the best in your future endeavours.

Sincerely,

Gary Lipinski
President, Métis Nation of Ontario
