Creating Safer Spaces for Two-Spirit Métis People

This upcoming Mental Health & Addictions (MHA) workshop will review the difference between sexuality and gender, provide an overview of different gender identities, and discuss inclusive practices to help ensure Two-Spirit people are acknowledged and supported within a Métis cultural context. It will also begin to explore what practicing allyship looks like.

Facilitator: Benny Michaud (she/they/him) is a proud ayahwkew (two-spirit), eagle clan, Michif person and originally from the Metis community of St. Boniface in Manitoba. Over the course of her career, she has worked to support the needs of Indigenous youth in both the mental health and education sectors. In her current role as Director of the Centre for Indigenous Initiatives, she works with her team to ensure that Indigenous students have the academic, cultural and spiritual supports necessary to maintain their health and wellbeing.
