Jennifer Nicholson Jennifer Nicholson is the Post-secondary Representative on the Provisional Council of The Métis Nation of Ontario (PCMNO). She faced her share of private challenges before she received her diploma at Trent University’s convocation ceremony this year.
Nicholson’s father is struggling with lung cancer but she worked hard and stayed on top of her studies while helping to care for him. She graduated on both the Dean’s List and the President’s List, which means she maintained an average of 80 per cent.
On June 3, Nicholson proudly wore her Métis sash over her graduation gown.
“It looked awesome,” she shared in an e-mail.
Nicholson spent four years studying at Trent University for a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Indigenous Studies and History. One of those years was spent as an exchange student in Birmingham, United Kingdom, at the University of Birmingham.
Now that she has completed her degree, Nicholson is pursuing a career as a teacher. She’ll be entering the Aboriginal Teacher Education Program this fall at Queen’s University.
